Goji Juice - Is It A Natural Cure For Cancer?

Many of these natural cures have even claimed to give longevity to life along with their so called cures or enhancements. We've all seen the headlines, "Himalayan sheep herder discovers cure to cancer growing on his farm..." or "Side effect of latest cancer cure adds 100 years to your life..."

One of the latest to crop up has been the Goji Juice made from an extract of the goji berries found in the northwest regions of China. The goji berry used for centuries by the Chinese for treatment of or curing ailments such as poor vision, skin irritation, and fertility problems claims to have some might powerful positive side effects these days.

There are dozens of websites now based around this miracle cure that now claims to be able to cure all sorts of cancers including lung cancer, kidney cancer, throat cancer, skin cancer, and thyroid cancer along with being able to reduce or decrease the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Lest we not forget that it can prolong life as well as make our sexual activity extend way beyond our passing of the 100 years of age mark in life.

So what is Goji Juice and is there any evidence to support these claims?

Goji Juice as stated earlier is a derivative of the goji berry that comes from the Lycium species of plants particularly the barbarum variety commonly referred to as the English wolfberry, matrimony vine, or Chinese Boxthorn plant. In ancient Chinese history it was noted that not only the berry was used for treatments and cures but also the leaves of the plant as well. The leaves were either boiled into a tea and drank or simply rubbed across infected areas of the human body.

In recent years though only the berry is used, although there area few websites that do sell ground version of the leaves for making the "Goji Tea". While the plant can grow just about anywhere in the eastern parts of the world's mountainous areas the best goji berries come from China, Tibet, and Inner Mongolia. The berries themselves are small round, orange to red in color, and contain many seeds. They are said to be sweet to the taste if eaten.

Goji Juice may have many boasts of being a cure all or enhancer of many things but the evidence of its successes is rare and hard to find at best. Most of the claims of evidence turn out to folklore stories passed down from others and really have no substantiating evidence behind them at all.

The US Government's medical databases only show slightly over 100 reports on the use and effectiveness of the use of Lycium and its derivatives in any clinical laboratory studies and of those less than half were of the Lycium Barbarum species being tested. Of these 50 or so tests only one single report even makes any claim of having any positive effect on the treatment of cancer. This one report was filed by a medical university in Shanghai and is all in Chinese with no English translation or notes at all contained within.

The report did however claim that with the use of Lycium Barbarum there was a 40% increase in the longevity of remission of cancer in the test subjects. There were no test results in the report to support the recent claims of prolonging life or sexual enhancements.

Currently Goji Juice runs around $45 per liter on the streets and through mail order. Whether it is worth the price is up to who you ask. Some people claim that Goji Juice has saved their lives and their marriages, while others use it as a preventative measure and to prolong life.
